Beatmatch.in - BPM Calculator
Having a sizeable record collection I always wanted to start mixing vinyl records (mostly for fun at home). I've had a little of experience with CDJs before back from university days, but admittedly almost exclusively relied on visual waveform cues. So naturally with vinyls I initially struggled quite a bit, especially around aligning BPMs.
Then I found an article on Reddit from a few years back that basically suggests you can figure out your Pitch Adjustment dial value on your turntables. You just need to know your active and incoming track BPMs.
The formula goes like this: Pitch Adjustment = (A - B) / (B * 0.01)
So armed with that knowledge I marked down the BPM for a handful of my records and tried using it as a starting point when mixing. And OH BOY did it make a difference!
I'm sure once I get a hang of things this won't be necessary, however in my first few days this took me from rarely landing transitions, to landing transitions more often than not! I was so impressed with this little "hack" that I've built it into a dedicated little site called beatmatch.in. Also for completeness I've added a built-in "tap to find BPM" feature, so I could find out the BPMs of playing tracks quickly.
